Behind the equation
A puzzle should stand up to checking.
Here is what our engine checks, what the written guides add, and how to report something we have missed.
Start with a template and a bounded keypad
A puzzle specifies an equation, fixed operators, empty positions and a target. Standard puzzles use digits from zero to nine. Master can supply a smaller set of numbers, fractions and root expressions. Every blank uses that same declared choice set, with repetition allowed.
Enumerate the choices
The engine evaluates every permitted ordered combination for the template. It rejects division by zero, invalid real square roots and non-finite values. Standard puzzles require exact division at each division step; Master permits fractions. Computed targets are compared using the game’s numerical tolerance of 10−9, rather than treating rounded display decimals as exact inputs.
Count expressions, not arrangements
The engine groups reordered terms of the same addition or multiplication. It preserves subtraction, division, roots and the structure of bracketed expressions. This is why 1 + 4 and 4 + 1 count once, while two different root constructions that both evaluate to two can count separately.
Publish a daily equation
The scheduled release runs at midnight UTC. It takes an approved queued puzzle when one is available, otherwise selects from the checked catalog while avoiding recently used catalog IDs where possible. It verifies that the puzzle has between two and eight distinct solutions before publication. The public calendar only exposes records marked as published, with a publication time that has arrived. A calendar day is not created just to fill a gap.
Give a reason, not just an answer
Each selected walkthrough explains an approach specific to that equation: a factor bound, a remainder range, an exhaustive set of cases or a root identity. These explanations were prepared with AI assistance. During this release, the selected equations and complete solution sets were rechecked against the engine. Automatic checks can verify arithmetic and coverage; they do not replace the publisher’s editorial judgement or reader feedback.
Daily pages include the real equation, its allowed choices, solution count and an optional computed step check. Those pages are generated automatically from released puzzle data. They are clearly separate from the individually developed walkthrough collection, and do not carry display-ad placements.
Corrections
Email [email protected] with the puzzle URL, the numbers you used and the step you think is wrong. Please distinguish an invalid equation from a duplicate arrangement. We can then compare it with the same rules the game uses. Significant corrections belong in our dated update notes; no testimonials or usage figures are invented.
